Experiencing a major snow or ice storm can be a frightening situation, and one you want to be prepared for in case a storm does blow through. Here at Johl & Company, we care about the safety of you, your family and your home. Below are some tips on how to prepare yourself in the event you are ever in this situation.
Keep nonperishable food and water well-stocked in your home. If you are not able to get out of your home and go to the grocery store, it is crucial that you have enough food at home to last you a few days.
Be sure that you have your cell phones charged if there are reports of a bad snow storm. If the power goes out it is important that you have the ability to contact other people.
Keep batteries and flashlights stocked in your home. In the event the power goes out, you need to have backup lights available.
If possible, use a portable generator if the power goes out to maintain light and heat. However, be cautious of carbon monoxide poisoning.
If you do not have access to a generator, be sure to keep some firewood around that you can use in your fireplace to keep yourself warm.
